Drainage & Utilities
Engineered drainage and utility installation that protects your development and meets regulatory requirements.
Drainage That Works. Infrastructure That Lasts.
Poor drainage causes more construction problems than almost any other factor. Waterlogged ground, flooded basements, failed sub-bases, and regulatory non-compliance — all consequences of drainage that wasn't designed or installed properly.
Rockstead Groundworks installs drainage and utility systems to specification, working from drainage engineer's drawings and coordinating with utility providers where required. We install surface water and foul drainage, soakaways, attenuation systems, and utility ducting across Scotland.
Every drainage installation is carried out with precision — correct falls, proper jointing, accurate invert levels, and thorough testing before backfill.

What We Install
Surface Water Drainage
Gullies, channels, pipework, and outfalls to manage surface water runoff from roads, hardstandings, and roofs.
Foul Drainage
Foul drainage systems from buildings to sewer connections, including inspection chambers and access points.
Soakaways
Soakaway pits, crates, and infiltration systems for surface water disposal where mains connection is not available.
Attenuation Systems
Attenuation tanks, geocellular systems, and detention basins to manage surface water discharge rates.
Utility Ducting
Utility duct installation for electricity, telecoms, gas, and water services beneath roads and hardstandings.
Inspection Chambers
Precast and in-situ inspection chambers, manholes, and access points to drainage and utility systems.
Drainage Installation Process
Drawing Review & Coordination
We review drainage engineer's drawings, coordinate with utility providers, and confirm connection points and invert levels before works begin.
Trench Excavation
Trenches are excavated to the required depth and width, with appropriate shoring where ground conditions require it.
Bedding & Pipe Laying
Granular bedding is placed and compacted, pipes are laid to correct falls and alignment, and joints are made to manufacturer's specification.
Chambers & Connections
Inspection chambers, manholes, and connection points are constructed to drawing specification.
Testing
Drainage systems are tested — air testing, water testing, or CCTV survey as required — before backfilling.
Backfill & Reinstatement
Trenches are backfilled in layers with appropriate material, compacted, and the surface reinstated.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you work to drainage engineer's drawings?
Yes. All drainage works are carried out to drainage engineer's drawings and specifications. We can also work with drainage design consultants where required.
Do you test drainage before backfilling?
Yes. We test drainage systems before backfilling as standard. The type of test (air, water, or CCTV) depends on the specification and client requirements.
Can you connect to existing drainage systems?
Yes. We carry out connections to existing drainage systems, including breaking into existing manholes and making new connections to live systems.
Do you handle Scottish Water adoption requirements?
We are familiar with Scottish Water adoption requirements and can install drainage to the standards required for adoption. We recommend engaging a drainage engineer for adoption applications.
Can you install drainage in restricted access areas?
Yes. We have mini-excavators and hand-digging capability for restricted access areas where larger plant cannot operate.
