Health & Safety
Safety is not a compliance exercise. It's how Rockstead operates — on every site, every day.
Safety Is Fundamental to How We Work
Rockstead Groundworks operates in line with recognised UK health and safety guidance and established construction practices. We take our duty of care to our operatives, subcontractors, clients, and the public seriously — and we embed safety into every stage of how we plan and deliver our work.
Groundworks is an inherently hazardous activity. Excavations, heavy plant, confined spaces, and working at depth all present real risks. Our approach is to identify those risks before work begins, put appropriate controls in place, and maintain a proactive safety culture throughout every project.
We do not treat health and safety as a box-ticking exercise. It is embedded in how we plan, manage, and deliver every project we undertake.
Our Health & Safety Framework
Risk Assessment & Method Statements
Every project begins with a thorough risk assessment and method statement (RAMS). We identify site-specific hazards, assess the risks, and put appropriate control measures in place before any work begins.
Excavation Safety
Excavations are one of the highest-risk activities in groundworks. We follow established safe excavation practices — including ground investigation, appropriate shoring, and exclusion zones — on every project.
Plant & Equipment Safety
All plant and equipment is maintained to current standards. Operators are competent and hold appropriate qualifications. Plant is inspected regularly and pre-use checks are carried out as standard.
PPE & Welfare
Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided and worn at all times on site. Welfare facilities are maintained to a standard that supports operative wellbeing throughout the working day.
Site Inductions & Briefings
All operatives receive site-specific inductions before starting work. Toolbox talks and briefings are carried out regularly to keep the team informed of site hazards and safe working procedures.
Incident Reporting & Learning
All incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions are reported and investigated. We use this information to continuously improve our safety practices and prevent recurrence.
CDM Regulations & Legal Duties
Rockstead Groundworks is familiar with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and understands our duties as a contractor under CDM. We work cooperatively with principal designers, principal contractors, and clients to ensure that health and safety obligations are met throughout the project lifecycle.
We produce and maintain the documentation required under CDM, including pre-construction information review, construction phase plans, and health and safety file contributions where required.
Rockstead Groundworks operates in line with recognised UK health and safety guidance and established construction practices. We do not make claims beyond what we can demonstrate in practice.
